Michael Woods, 62, of Marshall died at 11:55pm Friday, June 28, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Bro. Larry Matson officiating.  Burial will be in the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, IL.  Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service.  Memorials may be made to the Newton Southern Baptist Church.

Michael was born on January 18, 1951 in Effingham, IL the son of Lloyd Frederick Woods and Phylis Highshoe. He grew up in Bogota, IL raised by his grandparents Charles and Lucy Woods. Michael was a 1969 graduate of Newton Community High School. Michael married Donna Faltimier on December 12, 1970 and to this union two sons were born.  After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp serving from April 1, 1970 to July 31, 1974 in Cherry Point, North Carolina; he earned the rank of E5 Sergeant.  Michael returned to Illinois and attended Olney Central College obtaining an Associate of Science in Zoology.  He went on to attend Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Botany.  Michael spent most of his life in the painting industry holding various positions from laborer to superintendent. In 2006 he retired from the United States Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, Maryland. Most recently he served our Lord Jesus Christ as pastor of the Southern Baptist Church in Newton, IL. He received his certificate to preach in August 2012.  After retirement he enjoyed spending time on his property in Romney, West Virginia. He had many interests but studying God’s truth and spending time with his family were his highest priorities.  He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, mushroom hunting, gardening, carpentry and playing a game of horseshoes.  

Michael is survived by-Sons- Fred (Tawne) Woods of Marshall, Illinois and Danny (Bev) Woods of Norton, Virginia.Grandchildren- Gracie Lynn Woods, Tanner Michael Woods and Lucy Kaye Woods.Sister- Shelia Kollar

Michael was preceded in death by his brother Curtis Pierson, his parents Lloyd Frederick Woods and Phylis Highshoe Ernest and grandparents Charles and Lucy Woods.

Michael will be remembered for his toughness and desire to share God’s word.
