Steven Lee Smith, 49, of Neoga, IL, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family at 8:51 P.M. June 13th, 2012.
Steven was born March 3, 1963 in Effingham, Illinois, the son of David Smith and Louisa Zink. Steve was a Pressman for 29 years at R.R. Donnelly in Mattoon, IL. He married Georgia Anne Mosteller at Charleston, IL in 1988. He leaves a son, Dustin Wade Joseph Smith of Neoga, IL; a daughter, Stephanie LeeAnne Davis and husband Colton of Carbondale, IL; and a stepson, Jeff Stanton of Greenup, IL; his mother, Louisa Zink and step father, Dr. John Komocar both of Beach Park, IL; one Brother, J. Scott Smith and his partner Dr. Jim Atkinson of Phoenix, AZ; and three grandchildren, Jordon, Jaden, and Jaycen Stanton; aunts, Phyllis Zink - Schwenk and husband David of Urbana, IL and Gloria Wattles and husband Kenneth of Louisville, IL; Patricia Hoyt and late Dean Hoyt of Louisville; Josephine and John Talbot of St Louis, IL; Dorothy Grenia of St Louis, MO; uncles, John W. and wife Caroline Zink of Louisville, IL; Richard Zink of Urbana, IL; cousins, Chris Hayes of Urbana, IL, Kim and husband Greg Smith of Louisville, IL, Rod and wife Jill Hoyt of Louisville, IL, Mike Talbot of St Louis, MO, Rex and wife Rena Talbot of Ohio; Susan and husband Kurtis Heiney of St Louis, MO, Daniel Grenia of St Louis, MO, Laura Grenia of St Louis, MO, Brian and wife Debbie Grenia of St Louis, MO, Janet Zink of Irvine, CA, Brian and wife Nicola Wattles of Louisville, IL, John Eric and wife Sarah Wattles of Bridgeport, IL, Kathy and husband Rick Billingsley of Chesterfield, MO, Pam and husband Brian Bagget of Effingham, IL, Johnny and wife Shelly Zink of Louisville, IL and Josh and wife Jennifer Zink of Louisville, IL.
He was preceded in death by; his father, David Smith; grandparents, John C. and Rochelle Zink and Ted and Leticia Smith; aunt Lois Jean Zink; uncles Donald Lee Zink and James Henry Hackett; cousins Joni Zink-Hueckstaedt and Darren Hoyt, all of Louisville IL.
Steve was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Neoga, II and loved mushroom hunting, riding motorcycles, cooking, woodworking and spending time with his family and a community of kids who called Steve’s house “home”. He was a descendant of the Sons of the American Revolution and a descendant of the Mayflower arrivals but more preferred to be known as the owner of a Honda motorcycle with a smile on his face and a laugh in his heart. Childhood friends referred to him as, “Hollywood-smooth always smooth”. Steve was proud of the Lectern, attendance Board and the Cross he made for the Free Methodist Church in Neoga, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Free Methodist Church in Neoga, IL with the Pastor Steve Massengill of Neoga, IL. officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00P.M. until 8:00P.M. Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Swengel- O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, IL. There will be a Graveside Service at the Oskaloosa Cemetery west of Louisville, IL at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 18, 2012, with the Rev. Steve Massengill of Neoga, officiating.
