Eugene Marshall, 99, of Newton, Illinois passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Villas of Holly Brook in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 15 at Crain Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Phil Boyd officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery, Newton. Memorial gifts may be made to Lincolnland Hospice.

Eugene was born April 13, 1913 in Cabot, Arkansas, the son of Floyd and Gaibrilla (Parr) Marshall. He married Vivian M. Gustin December 1, 1935 and she preceded him in death January 19, 2008. Eugene spent his life as a grain and livestock farmer. He attended the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church and was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau. Eugene served on the Jasper County Board, the Hunt Township Board and as township supervisor.

Survivors include daughter, Mildred (husband Leslie) Matson of Newton; grandsons, Tim Matson of Greensboro, N.C. and Keith (wife Stacia) Matson of Newton; four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Christian, Ethan and Kayla Matson and sister, Marjorie Pinell of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and sister, Sylvia Mineo.
