Robert W. Van Osdol, 88, of Effingham, illinois died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Military graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 21,  in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery of Elwood, Illinois. The Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be left by clicking here.

He was born August 7, 1924, in Lansing, Michigan the son of Oliver Leonard and Erma Katherine (Lodie) Van Osdol. Robert was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Chicago, IL and he served in the United States Navy during World War II. Robert married Ellen Ann Hankel in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Chicago, Illinois, March 27, 1948. He was a retired  salesman for the Wholesale pet supplies. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Glenview, IL and a life member of the Robert Woodburn, American Legion Post # 1037.

Mr. Van Osdol leaves his loving wife of 65 years, Ellen Ann Van Osdol of Effingham; one son, R. Wesley Van Osdol of San Jose, CA; one daughter, Robin V. Jarrett and husband James of Ormond Beach, FL; one sister, Katherine Rehkopf and husband Arvid of Lansing, MI; three grandchildren, Jamie and wife Alissa Jarrett of Iowa City, IA; Katie Roberts and husband Jeff of Morgan Hill, CA and Karie Jarrett of Hampton, GA; three great grandchildren, Tyler and  Ryan Roberts and Brandt Jarrett.

Mr. Van Osdol was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Mary (Miller) Van Osdol; parents, and sister, Leona Van Osdol.
