Bernard W. "Ben" Donsbach, 86, of Green Creek died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at his home in rural Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 17 at Sacred Heart Catholilc Church in Lillyville with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a parish prayer service beginning at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crossroads Cancer Center or to the donor's choice. www.bauerfh.com.

Ben was born September 3, 1926 in Effingham, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth (Koester) Donsbach. He married Nellie C. Willenborg on September 4, 1948 and she survives. Ben was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Green Creek, Effingham American Legion Post #120 and the Effingham V.F.W. Post #1769. Ben also served with the United States Army during World War II. He began as a baker for Holsum Bakery, then worked in the Martin’s IGA Bakery, retired from World Color Press and had also been a part-time farmer.

Ben is survived by his wife, Nellie of rural Effingham; three sons, Dale (Kathy) of Effingham, Jerry (Susan) of Teutopolis, Wayne (Carol) of Effingham; four daughters, Linda (Dennis) Pals of Mt. Zion, Janice (Paul) Semple of Effingham, Janet (Bill) Kocher of Effingham and Denise (Jeff) Gallagher of Mode; half brother, Norb (Pat) Donsbach of St. John’s, IN and half sister, Phyllis Rice of Lawrenceville; twenty grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharon; granddaughter, Stephanie; brother, Robert and half brother, Luke Donsbach.
