Carol L. King, 71, of rural St. Elmo, IL died at 6:12 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Rev. Mark White officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to the HSHS Hospice or the donor’s choice. The family requests casual attire and bright colors.

Carol Lynne King was born on Saturday, March 1, 1952 in Altamont to Carl and Cora (Taylor) Duckwitz. She married George King on February 14, 1987 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In addition to raising her family she was a beautician and had operated Carol’s Cut and Curl Cottage and had been an EMT and a CNA at several area long term care facilities. She was a past Girl Scout Leader.

She is survived by her husband of over 36 years, George King of St. Elmo; son, Jeremy Heiser of Terre Haute, IN; stepson, James (Keely) King of Rose Hill; daughters, Chelsie (John) Pontious of Altamont and Cora (Jonathan) Legg of Shelbyville; stepdaughter, Amber King of Effingham; brother, William Duckwitz of St. Joseph; 23 grandchildren and 1 great grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Jack (Nellie Faye) Taylor and sister-in-law, Joyce Duckwitz.
