John L. “Jack” Campbell, 86, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham with military rites. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Jack was born on November 24, 1936, in Effingham, IL, the son of Alva and Regina (Schoenhoff) Campbell. He graduated from Effingham High School in 1955. He married Barbara Ann Langkafel in June of 1955 and they shared sixty-eight years together. They had one child, Tracey Diane. He proudly served in the United States Army. Jack’s passion was the automotive industry. He was a longtime employee of both Dan Hecht Chevrolet and Russ Braunecker Oldsmobile Cadillac GMC. He was also a “jack of all trades” as he built or remodeled many homes. After retirement, he loved to refurbish his “project” cars. He was a member of the Effingham AMVETS. Jack and his wife also raised and loved Samoyed dogs.

Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara of Effingham; siblings, Larry (Donna) Campbell of Newton; Roy (Jeanne) Campbell of Effingham, and Julie (Roger) Rich of Jewett; sister-in-law, Linda Campbell of Paris; son-in-law, Mike Conley of Effingham; granddaughter, Kristen (Tyler) Conley-Davis of Effingham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tracey Conley; brother, Terry Campbell; and sister, Nancy Campbell.
