Byrl P. Beckert, 99, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Funeral services with military rites will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, with visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Byrl was born on January 6, 1924, in Greenville, Illinois, the son of Michael and Ida (Price) Beckert. He married Helen Hammer on June 30, 1951, in Greenville, IL. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2012. Byrl served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was stationed in the Philippines on the USS Dixie. Byrl was a hard-working man who could fix about anything. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, and just being outdoors. He also loved driving a truck. Byrl started out in Greenville, IL, working for a few small haulers before transferring over to Effingham in 1966. He continued his trucking career his whole life.

Byrl is survived by his children, Steve (Kris) Beckert of Fort Wayne, IN, Chris (Brad) Boldt of Walkertown, NC, Kathy (Randy) Klitzing of Altamont, Mark Beckert of Effingham, Patti Camp of Walkersville, MD, and John Beckert of Effingham; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Beckert; brother, Harold Beckert; sister, Edna Hill; and great-grandson, David Welton.
