William A. “Bill” White, 81, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2023 at Willowbrook Memory Support Residences in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Iola Cemetery in Iola with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. William was born on October 7, 1941, in Flora, IL, the son of Noel and Gladys (Brown) White. He graduated from North Clay High School in 1959. Bill served his country in the United States Army from 1962-1965. He was a member of the American Legion Post 300 in West Chicago for many years where he served as Past Commander, and currently a member of the Effingham American Legion Post 120. Bill worked at General Mills in West Chicago before retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Effingham and the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum Association. Bill loved going on walks and could be spotted around Effingham often. He also loved singing and whistling anywhere and everywhere, no matter who was around.

Bill is survived by his brother, Richard (Deana) White; sisters, Carol (Paul) Wolke and Virginia Tripp (ReDon Golden); and several nieces and nephews. He loved being called “The Great Uncle Bill.”

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert; infant sister, Lillian; sister, Delores (Bob) Wernsing; and nephew, Ron Wernsing.
