Lois Marie Smith, 92, of Flora, and formerly of Louisville passed away at 1:35 am Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Flora Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Flora.

Lois was born on February 2, 1931, in Mattoon, Illinois the daughter of Alfred and Nina Mary (Barnes) Holeman. She attended North Clay School. When she married she moved to Flora and moved her membership to Oak Street Baptist Church. There she taught 9-12 year old children for many years. For a time she lived in Carterville, Illinois and was active in her church there. She moved to Louisville in 1993, and became a member of the Wabash Baptist Church, where she is still a member, and was a Sunday School teacher there for many years. She worked for the Flora Shoe Factory until they closed and then was a bus driver for Head Start until she retired.

Lois is survived by her children: Dee Ann (Andy) McGehee of Flora, Gary Smith of Olney; grandchildren: Laura Bricker of Clay City, Julie Atwood of Clay City; step grandchildren: A.J. McGehee of Flora, Cody McGehee of St. Petersburg, Florida; 5 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Juanita Stanley, Carole Spencer, Dorothy Tolliver; brother-in-law: John Tolliver; niece: Beverly Griffy; nephew: Tom Griffy; daughter-in-law: Thelma Smith.

Graveside services to celebrate Lois’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville, with Randy McElroy officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Lois’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville is entrusted with the care and arrangements.
