Catherine Joellen Thomas, 66, of Shelbyville, Illinois, passed away peacefully embraced by family on Monday, February 6, 2023, in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Cathy was born on January 15, 1957, in Shelbyville, the daughter of John Leo and Martha “June” (Miller) Sullivan. She was a 1975 graduate of Shelbyville High School and continued her studies at Lake Land College and Eastern Illinois University. Cathy was previously married to Robert Thomas and from that union they were blessed with five children: John, Abi, Sara, Adam and Alisha. Cathy was a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister and friend first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. Cathy was a kind, caring and compassionate woman of God who truly enjoyed helping others so her role as a caretaker came natural to her. She touched many lives in Shelbyville and the surrounding areas. May she be smiling from heaven, pleased with the full and wonderful life she lived, and the many lives she so positively and beautifully touched.

Cathy will lovingly be remembered by her children: John Robert Thomas of Shelbyville, Abi (Raymond) Holden of Carol Stream, Sara Thomas of Shelbyville, Adam Thomas of Shelbyville and Alisha (Nathan) Hufford of Suffolk, Virginia; six grandchildren: Cattie-Bre Thomas, Jacob Martin, Katherine Martin, Raymond L. Holden, Dante Thomas and Liam Thomas and one sister, Nona (Richard) Jones of Downers Grove.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, John “Sully” Sullivan.
