Charles Edward Niccum, 75, of Beecher City died Monday, May 27, 2013 in St. John's Memorial Hospital in Springfield.

Ed was born Dec. 18, 1937 in Effingham, IL the son of Louis Elvin and Opal Marie Peters Niccum.  He married Ruth Sparks on April 20, 1957 in Corinth, MS.  Ed was a carpenter and worked for Harold Bushur Construction Co. in Effingham, IL for many years.  He was a member and former fire chief of the Beecher City Tri-County Fire Department. Ed was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and work in his garden.

Surviving are his wife Ruth; children: Charles Edward (Angie) Niccum Jr., John (Dinah) Niccum of Shumway, IL and Judy (Jay) Bell of Beecher City; grandchildren: Charles Edward Niccum III, Christopher Shane (Danielle) Niccum, Jessica (fiancé,  Billy Forbes) Christianson, Kelsie  Niccum, Trisha Joann Bell, Jade Jodawn Bell, Dalanie Jo Bell, Elizabeth Nicole Reed, Dylan Reed and  Dylan Mason; great grandchildren: Annabelle Niccum, Eli Niccum, Shane Niccum, Tyler Niccum and Brayden Christianson; brothers and sisters: Opal ( Hal) Campbell of Decatur, IL, Jerry (Matilda)  Niccum of Effingham, Joyce Cordero of Janesville WI and Alice (Sam) Walker of Marietta, GA and his faithful companion,  Muttley.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Wayne Niccum, Harry Niccum and Don Niccum, Delbert Niccum, Robert Niccum and twin brothers, Louis Niccum and Elvin Niccum in infancy; sisters: May Davis, Iva Sparks and Leona Niccum.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday May 31, 2013 in the United Methodist Church in Beecher City.  Pastor Paul Bauer will officiate.   Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM Thursday in the Church and from 9:30 AM until time of the service on Friday in the church.  Burial will be in Hubbartt Cemetery, Beecher City.  Memorials can be made to the Beecher City Tri-County Fire Department.
