Joni Dee James, 50, of Greenup died at 1:53am Sunday, May 19, 2013 at her residence.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday May 22, 2013 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Graveside funeral services will be at 4:00 pm on Thursday May 23, 2013 at the Greenup Cemetery.

Joni was born on March 17, 1963 in Mattoon, IL the daughter of David & Delores (Brown) Owen.

She is survived by her two children Janna Shaffer and Braden Shaffer both of Greenup; Significant other Brad Winnett of Greenup; sisters Shelia Maulding of Casey, Shanna (Bruce) Gross of Casey and Tamara Owen of Toledo; nephew Ryan Seymour and great niece Xiloa Seymour.

Joni was preceded in death by her parents.

Joni had been the Activity Director at the Coles County Counsel on Aging and was a Deputy Clerk in the Cumberland County Circuit Clerks office. Joni found great peace and happiness planting flowers and working outdoors. She inherited her love for nature and all God’s creatures from her father, and she shared that love with her cats. She touched many lives and will be remembered for her loving and giving heart. Her special way of living life, always making time for others, will be remembered always by all who were blessed to know her. Her family especially her children, was her greatest joy.

Memorials in her name can be made to the Pet Connection or to Lincolnland Hospice.
