John Oscar Hoffman, 87, of Edgewood, peacefully passed away at 8:45 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana surrounded by his loving family.

John was born March 15, 1926, the son of Oscar and Mary K. (Mazanek) Hoffman.  He resided in Edgewood, IL for 80 years.  In his younger years he had a fascination with horses. His garden had some of the largest watermelons in the area. He always kept up with events in Edgewood by reading the Effingham Daily News. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family.

He is survived by nieces, Sue (Rex) Hess of Champaign and Mary (John North) Clow of St. Joseph, nephew Phil (Cindy) Clow of Oakland, California, 5 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin sisters, Lois and Betty Hoffman, nephew, David Dewey Clow, and great nephews, Matthew Nerlien and Joshwa Smith, half-Brothers, Harold and Voris Hoffmann, and half-sisters, Hazel Hoffman Craig and Nadine Hoffman Whitaker.

Funeral services with Rev. Kent Robinson officiating will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood, with burial following in Edgewood Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to Funeral service. Memorials are requested to Edgewood Cemetery.
