Gerald J. Barrett, 79, of Effingham, IL, passed away at 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012
at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Southside Baptist Church, Effingham, with Pastor Steve Britton and Pastor Jeremy Amster officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the church. Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements. Gerald was born on November 17, 1932 in Kansas City, MO, the son of Gerald Everett and Veral W. (Jones) Barrett. He married Mary Janet Sanders on October 10, 1952 in Kansas City, MO, and she preceded him in death on February 2, 2012. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Effingham. He was a maintenance manager for McDonald’s Restaurant on 1304 N. Keller Drive, Effingham. He was also a pressman for printing companies in Kansas City, Mo, St. Louis, Mo, and Effingham. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, reading, and spending time with his family. Gerald’s greatest passion was serving the Lord.
Gerald is survived by his children, Kim S. (Pastor Steve) Britton of Estherville, Iowa, Kye S. Barrett of Kansas City, MO, Pastor J. Aaron (Sheila) Barrett of Round Lake Beach, IL, and Joel B. (David Seymour) Barrett of South Bend, IN; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha “Ramona” Cassidy of Kansas City, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Mary Janet Barrett.
