James C. Niebrugge, 62, of Effingham, local businessman, real estate developer, and veteran passed away at 8:07 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Sacred Heart Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary followed by 4th Degree rites at the church. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is in charge of arrangements.

James was born on February 12, 1951, in Effingham, the son of John and Adele (Beckman) Niebrugge. He married Linda Stewart on April 25, 1997. James was the owner and operator of Niebrugge Oil Company and was involved with several other entrepreneurial adventures during his career. He was known as “Jumpin’ Jimmy” and always took good care of his customers. He had a very strong work ethic and always maintained a positive and optimistic outlook on life. James was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church; served on the National Bank Board of Directors; member of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Effingham Elks, American Legion, and Southtown Business Association. He co-founded Niebrugge Cares Foundation with his wife Linda and has given to many non-profit organizations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife, Linda Niebrugge of Effingham; four daughters, Jayme (Dr. Michael) Schultheis of Effingham, Jody (Ryan) Siemer of Teutopolis, Amanda (Kurt) Steffen of Chicago, Jill (Bret) Spiller of O’Fallon, MO; and son, Jacob (Krista) Niebrugge of Indianapolis, IN. He had several grandchildren, Shelby, Conner, and Caleb Siemer, Blake, Kaitlyn, and Kortney Spiller, and Brooks Niebrugge. He is also survived by his brother, Dennis (Mary Beth) Niebrugge of Effingham; sisters, Carolyn Niebrugge of Effingham, Jane (Phil) Kortte of Effingham, Marlene (Dennis) Holkenbrink of Louisville, Theresa (James) Gaffigan of Rogers, AR, and JoAnn (Raymond) Jansen of Effingham; and sister-in-law, Dr. Margaret Niebrugge of Effingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Adele Niebrugge; and a brother, Ronald Niebrugge.
