Eldon Dale Joergens, 85, of Effingham, IL, a loving husband, father, grandpa and great-papa, passed away at home on Friday, July 1, 2022 after a brief illness.

Eldon was born April 12, 1937 into the Christian family of Walter and Luetta (Drews) Joergens and had one sister, Jeannine (Joergens) Wente. Eldon grew up on the family farm south of Dieterich, Illinois. He was a 1955 graduate of Effingham High School and a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. Eldon married Judith Joan Smith on December 18, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church, Champaign, Illinois, and she survives. Eldon spent his career in agriculture, selling fertilizer and hybrid seed. Customers who became friends were one of Eldon’s greatest pleasures, and he talked fondly his whole life of these special friendships. Eldon was baptized, confirmed, and married in the Lutheran faith and served in almost every capacity at Christ Lutheran in Clinton, Illinois and St. John’s Lutheran in Effingham. Eldon’s greatest joy was time spent with family, annual fishing trips to Pelican Rapids, Minnesota with the Clinton gang, golf trips with friends, Florida winters with Judy, fishing trips with Marc and grandsons, attending grandkids’ sports and school activities, gardening, maintaining a manicured lawn and rose gardens, daily walks with mall friends, church friendships, and his Life Light Bible study group.

Eldon is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judy; their children, Julie (Marcy) Scott and Marc (Anne) Joergens; their grandchildren, Zachary (Monica) Scott, Meghan (Cory) Wahl, Brady (fiancée, Shayna Phillips) Scott, and Sara, Nicole and Luke Joergens; greatgrandchildren, Avery, Nolan and Alivia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
