Eleanor Irene (Thornton) Evans of Mattoon

Eleanor Irene (Thornton) Evans was born in Cumberland County, Illinois, May 27, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Lucile (Holsapple) Thornton. She passed from this life on June 6, 2022, at 7:15 PM in the home of her daughter and son-in-law where she lived.

She married Rono Evans on November 22, 1947; he passed away May 2, 1999. She lived in Cumberland and Coles Counties most of her life, living in Kansas City, Kansas in her teenage years.

A graveside funeral service for family and friends will be on Saturday June 11, 2022, at 3:00 pm at the Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 pm on Saturday June 11, 2022, at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo, IL.

Surviving are her daughter, Dona (Rick) King of Mattoon; grandchildren Amy Beth (Greg) Crow of Livingston, Texas and Jeffrey Scott (Deidra) King of Arlington, Texas; and great grandchildren Corinn and Addyson Crow, and Maclain, Maddox, and Myles King.

Eleanor was a homemaker, happiest when spending time with her daughter and son-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; she loved them dearly. She especially enjoyed her trips to Texas with Rick and Dona when her family could all be together. Eleanor was a member of First Baptist Church of Charleston and a former member of Hopewell Baptist Church of Johnstown.
