Howard E. Bohnhoff, age 88, of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 9:45 AM Saturday, May 21, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, May 27, 2022, at St John Lutheran Church, south of Dieterich, Illinois, with Pastor Dean Herberts officiating. Burial will be in the St John Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the church and again Friday, 9:30-10:00 AM. In loving memory of Howard, memorials may be made to the St John Lutheran Church special project fund. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois. Howard was born on October 15, 1933, in rural Dieterich, Illinois, the son of Edward and Della (Diehl) Bohnhoff. He married Alice Janet Wohltman on April 1, 1956, at St John Lutheran Church, and she preceded him in death on May 22, 2007. Howard entered the services of our country on January 15, 1954, serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on November 1, 1955. Howard was a lifelong farmer and drove a school bus for 56 years in the Dieterich area. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Dieterich. He was also a member of the Dieterich High School Sports Hall of Fame and was a very avid Chicago Cubs fan. People enjoyed stopping by his house every summer to buy watermelon and visit with Howard.

Howard is survived by: Children – Marceline (Alan) Kingery of Montrose, Illinois; Janice (Kent) Mellendorf of Louisville, Illinois; Brian (Lisa) Bohnhoff of Dieterich, Illinois; Kimberly Walk of Effingham, Illinois; Cindy (Ray, Jr) Hinterscher of Dieterich, Illinois; and Dirk (Laurie) Bohnhoff of Effingham, Illinois; 18 Grandchildren; 33 Great Grandchildren; Siblings – Floyd (Joan) Bohnhoff of Dieterich, Illinois; Norma Jean Suckow of Edgewood, Illinois; Randall (Donna) Bohnhoff of Montrose, Illinois; and Robert (Rose) Bohnhoff of Dieterich, Illinois.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Merlin Bohnhoff, infant son Sidney Bohnhoff, and son-in-law David Walk.
