Doris “Imogene” (Culver) James, age 79, of Effingham, Illinois passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2022 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Tom Fish will be officiating. Burial will be at Stewardson Cemetery in Stewardson, Illinois. Memorials may go to the Effingham Cross or donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here.

Imogene was born on June 17, 1942 in Effingham, the daughter of Homer and Edna (Webb) Culver. She was a veteran of the United States Army. Imogene worked at World Color Press for 30 years. She was a member of New Hope Church in Effingham. She loved volunteering at the Effingham Performance Center and at the Effingham Cross. Imogene enjoyed country and gospel music, concerts, line dancing, crossword puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and her monthly trip to Bible Grove to see the Gym Bob Jamboree Show. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Richard James (wife Angela) of Effingham and Robert James (wife Brenda) of Watson; daughters, Janie Phillips of Effingham and Jeanie Schuette (husband Timothy) of Highland; brother, Charles Culver of Strasburg; sister, Charlene Culver of Strasburg; a special grandson, Derik Daugherty of Kansas City, Missouri; her dog and loyal companion, Belle; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great greatgrandchildren; and niece, Ann Doedtman (husband David) of Effingham.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Edna Culver; son, Frederick “Rick” James; granddaughter, Shannon James; sister-in-law, Janet Culver; and nephew, Andrew Culver.
