Ralph Warren Chesnut, age 100, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Shelbyville Manor in Shelbyville, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois, with Rick Britton officiating. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery west of Latona, Illinois, with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. Ralph was born on February 5, 1922, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Lawrence and Cora Ovle (Gossman) Chesnut. He married Cressie Marcella Shamhart on July 31, 1948, in Olney, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2014. Ralph had been a mechanic at Fehrenbacher Oldsmobile in Newton. He then farmed for many years and worked as a farm mechanic. Ralph served his county in the United States Army during WWII. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Ralph is survived by: Daughter – Barbara (Richard) Sabino of Shelbyville, Illinois; Grandchildren – Shawn (Don) Gardner, Brian (Diane) Bunton and Robin (John) Rarrick; Sister – Donna (Leo) Galloway of Newton, Illinois; 10 Great Grandchildren; and 5 Great Great Grandchildren.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Laverne Chesnut, wife, brother Dean Chesnut and sister Mae Toppe.
