Lois L. Althoff, 65 of Effingham, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Lois was born November 26, 1956 in Peoria, the daughter of Charles W. and Lois Charlene (Durbin) Pilman. She graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1974, obtained her bachelor's degree in business management from Phoenix University, and later with her master’s degree from Capellas University. She married Anthony R. “Tony” Althoff on July 28, 2012. After she retired from Caterpillar, she began working part-time at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga. Lois worked with a cancer group, raising money to help locals in need of assistance. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, as well as quilting and scrapbooking.

Lois is survived by her husband, Tony of Effingham; son, Robert (Brandi) Descamps of Belleville; daughter, Stephanie Descamps of Pekin; step-sons, Richard Althoff of Royalton and Angel Romero of Carterville; mother, Charlene Smith of Effingham; brothers, Douglas (Tammy) Pilman of Peoria and Jerry (Toni) Pilman of Rincon, GA; mother and father-in-law, Richard and Mary Ellen Althoff of Effingham; sister-in-law, Tammy (Ron) Phillips and brother-in-law, Terry (Janice) Althoff; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one on the way; seven nephews, two nieces, and one great-nephew.

Lois was preceded in death by her father and brother, Charles L. Pilman.
