Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday, March 26 in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Newton. Memorial gifts in honor of Vera may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be left by clicking here.
Vera was born February 26, 1932 to Ancil and Lucille (Grant) Fry. She married Jay Dee Stiles and had one son Steven Roy Stiles. She later married Albert Gray, who passed away November 10, 2014. Vera retired from the garment industry and enjoyed piecing quilts, knitting and crocheting.
Surviving Vera is her son Steven (Ann) Stiles of Effingham; grandson Chad Stiles of Lake Station, Indiana; granddaughter Tara (Michael) Taylor of Effingham and three great-granddaughters Molly and Abby Stiles and Daisy Taylor; brother, Ray (Ruth) Fry of Groveland and sister Barbara Fry of Bloomington; step-son Bob (Kathy) Gray of Newton; step-daughter Nancy Cox of Mississippi; step-grandchildren Melvin (Amy) Gray, Stephen Gray, Harley (Stacy) Gray, Hunter Gray (fiancé Fayth Bushue), Garrett Ulmer and family and April Ulmer; step great-grandchildren Taylor, Madison, Riley, Grayson and Jäger Gray, Holden Smith and Bryce Ulmer and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert, her parents Ancil and Lucille Fry, six brothers Oliver, Everett, Junior Roy, Verlin, Lyle and Eddie Ray and four sisters Helen Day, Clara Hardesty, Alice Chrisman, and Frieda Bright and her second husband Clyde Hayes.
