Lloyd L. “Pete” Matson, age 93 of Newton, IL passed away at 10:00 AM – Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Newton Rest Haven in Newton, IL.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM – Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL with Bro. Larry Matson officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, IL. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. Memorials may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church or Jasper County Senior Citizens Center.
Lloyd L. better known as “Pete” was born on April 14, 1920 on Love’s Ford Hill overlooking the Embarras River in Jasper County, IL the son of Ralph Dayton and Grace Pauline (Bower) Matson. He married Wanda Wagner on March 3, 1938 in Jasper County, IL and they just recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Pete was a farmer, carpenter and retired from E.R. Moore in Newton after 23 years of service. In 1952 Pete and Wanda bought a farm in the river bottoms west of Rose Hill, IL and farmed there for many years. Pete served his country in the United States Army during WW II. Pete was baptized in the Embarras River at the Love’s Ford Bridge west of Falmouth, IL. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Pete enjoyed gardening, bowling and fishing on the Embarras River in Jasper County.

Waddell of Robinson, IL and Ruth Carpenter of Newton, IL...11 Grandchildren...19 Great Grandchildren...9 Great Great Grandchildren.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers Rupert, Glenn, Daniel J. and Dewey G. Matson; 2 sisters Flavia Gowran and Billie Kay Woodard and a granddaughter Joni Johnson.
