Joan M. Eggers, 69 of Effingham, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Joan’s family requests all attendees wear a mask and maintain social distancing guidelines set by CDC guidelines. Memorial donations may be given to Secular Franciscans. Joan was born July 18, 1952 in Effingham, the daughter of Louis and Dorothy (Rieman) Herboth. She married Kenneth N. Eggers Jr. and he preceded her in death in 2000. Joan loved spending time with her grandson, family and friends. She was an active volunteer in her church and community and was a Secular Franciscan in the Secular Franciscan Order at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Joan also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards and other games.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Sascha of Phoenix, AZ and Kasee of Portland, OR; son, Kelly of Effingham; grandson, Connor; siblings, Don (Joann) Herboth of Altamont, Carl (Inge) Herboth of Altamont, Frank (Marsha) Herboth of Altamont, Louise (Tom) Nuxoll of Effingham, Jeanette (Allen) Barr of Effingham, Paula (Randy) Strunk of Effingham, Kathy (Mike) McGuire of Edgewood, Becky (Jake) Adams of Effingham, Marti (Gary) Breer of Teutopolis, Dottie Hawker of Hazel Dell and Mindy Sayne of Bloomington; brother-in-law, Johney Morris of Bradley; sister-in-law, Rose Herboth of Ellington, MO.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dolores Morris; brothers, David Herboth, Joe Herboth and Mike Herboth; brother-in-law, Paul Hawker.
