Donnie Ray Engeljohn, age 84, of St. Elmo, Illinois passed away surrounded by his family at 4:14 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2022, at his residence in St. Elmo, Illinois, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalia, Illinois with a one hour viewing prior to service. Rev. Brad Frye will be officiating. Burial will be at the Old Loogootee Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo, Illinois. Memorials may go to the Old Loogootee Cemetery or donor’s choice. Donnie was born on March 26, 1937, at home in Effingham County, Illinois, the son of Otto H. and Marlee M. (Dunbar) Engeljohn. He married Norma Albright on January 1, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church in Loogootee, Illinois. Donnie was the owner/operator of Engeljohn Trucking, and he was also a farmer. He enjoyed bowling, woodworking, hunting, and golfing. His greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; sons: Doug (Shannon) Engeljohn of St. Elmo, Illinois; Darryl Engeljohn (John Hammons) of Belleville, Illinois; Daughter: Dona Engeljohn of Wichita , Kansas; sisters-in-law Oma Ruff of Altamont, Illinois, Karen White (Eddy) of LeRoy, Illinois; brother-in-law: Charles Albright (Mary Sue) of Springfield, Illinois; grandchildren: Dillon Oakes (Katie) of Kansas; Taylor Oakes of Kansas; Dawson Engeljohn and Darcy Engeljohn of St. Elmo; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Marlee Engeljohn; brother, Carroll Engeljohn.
