Larry William Jones, 72, of Pinckneyville, formerly of Louisville, passed away at 5:04 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Mt. Vernon’s Good Samaritan Hospital.

Larry was born at home on June 25, 1949, in Louisville, the son of Leonard Dale and Elma Gale (Conard) Jones. He married Janet Sue Wickiser on February 7, 1969, in Clay County, and they shared nearly 53 years of marriage. Larry worked tirelessly as a livestock buyer/ manager for various companies for over 40 years. He loved the simple things in life including vegetable gardening where he derived the most pleasure in nurturing his prize-winning crops and then preparing them for almost daily delivery to anyone he could think of to bless. He also took meticulous care of his flowers and thoroughly enjoyed mushroom hunting alongside family and friends. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, grandson, and friend.

Larry is survived by his wife Janet formerly of Flora, his 4 children: Paul (Ruben) Jones of Oakland, California, Tammy (Brooke) Jones-Anderson of Ellisville, Missouri, Christina “Chrissy” Jones of Fairfax, Virginia, Mary (Joseph) Jackson of DuQuoin, Illinois, 5 grandchildren: Brianah Jones of St. Louis, Missouri, Timothy Meier of Carbondale, Illinois, Samuel Horn of Petersburg, Indiana, Kaylee Horn of Ellisville, Missouri, and Danielle Jackson of DuQuoin, Illinois. Larry is also survived by a sister: Cindy Stanford of Flora, 2 brothers: Kent Jones of Louisville, David (Kathy) Jones of Beecher City, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends all of whom he treasured.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Sheila Jones, grandmother Lotha Jones, and a sister-in-law Debbie Jones.

**Out of respect for and per the family’s insistence, masks will be REQUIRED by all who choose to attend either the visitation or service.  Masks will be provided personally by Larry's family due to their personal convictions as well as due to the complex and compromised health issues of several family members and out of deep concern for protecting all who come to pay their respects. ANYONE wishing to attend either service will be REQUIRED to properly mask at all times while in the funeral home, or they will be denied admittance.**

Funeral services honoring the life of Larry will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville with Gene Birch officiating.  Burial will follow at Red Brush Cemetery in rural Louisville. Visitation will be held on Monday evening at the funeral home where friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. for those particularly interested in greeting Janet. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for those interested in continuing Larry’s legacy of care for others, his sharing spirit, or his love of the simple beauty of plants to instead consider planting a tree, taking a meal to a friend, or simply adding a new variety of a bold flower to their own outside garden in his memory.
