Victor Deters, 99 of Teutopolis, died at his home on January 9, 2022.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the church with a Knights of Columbus rosary to follow. He was born October 14, 1922, in rural Sigel, the son of Herman and Bernadine (Niemann) Deters. He married Bertha “Tootie” Krone, May 20, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 2002.

Vic attended Sigel St. Michael grade school, 3-year high school, and graduated from Teutopolis High School. Vic lived and farmed east of Teutopolis until he and Tootie moved to the town of Teutopolis whereupon he continued farming, then helped his sons farm, and lastly watched them farm. He was a member of St. Francis Church, Teutopolis, last surviving charter member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874, a fourth-degree member, and a member of the St. Francis nursing home singers. He was a Teutopolis school board member, president of the Effingham-Clay Service Company board for several years, agent and board member of Home Farmers Mutual Insurance company for 36 years.

Until Covid, Vic had a full day which included morning mass, breakfast at Kountry Kitchen and visiting with others when possible. He loved his family and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed dancing in the area and with the group that drove to Pana. Watching high school sports kept him busy. He loved cheering the Cubs to a world series win in 2016.

Survivors include daughter, Jean (Steve) Sehy, Teutopolis; sons, Thomas (Margie Probst) Deters, Sigel; Michael (Becky West) Deters, Teutopolis; and Dennis (Ann Schultz) Deters, Nashville, TN; Nineteen grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.

Victor was preceded in death by sisters: Cecila (Sylvester) Westjohn, Agnes (Otto) Schumacher, and Christine. Brothers: Aloysius (Marcella Brummer), Otto, Lawrence, Francis Christian (died in infancy), Anthony (Veronica McGraw), Elizabeth (Jacob) Merkle, and Francis (Rita Anderson).
