Dixie Lee Donaldson, 75, of Altamont, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois with her family by her side.

Dixie was born on February 3, 1946, the daughter of Samuel and Maxine (Dettro) Laue. Dixie was known for her selfless love for others, her sense of humor, her outstanding work ethic, her infectious laugh, her immense love for her family, and her love for animals, especially dogs and horses. She looked forward to daily visits from her son which included watching the Cubs, Let's Make a Deal and playing cards. She enjoyed many vacations with her daughter and family. She traveled to many places including South Carolina, California, Cabo, and Florida with her grandkids. Her grandchildren's favorite memories include playing Monopoly, Foosball, Rook, going to the park, beach time, trips to Krispy Kreme, and always laughing wherever they went. Some of her favorite trips were the beach trips to Florida. Dixie loved to sit in the sun on the beach and enjoy God's beautiful creation. Dixie was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini Basketball fan. She enjoyed the horse races at the county fair, singing and dancing, laughing, playing cards and games with her family, and above all having fun and enjoying every moment. In addition to spending time with her family, Dixie loved riding horses and spending time with her precious dogs, Snickers and Angel. In her younger years, she enjoyed spending time at the lake with her brothers and sister. Dixie had a strong belief in our Heavenly Father, and we are at peace knowing she is now riding her horse on the most beautiful beach in Heaven with Jesus Christ. She enjoyed working at Stella D’oro in St. Elmo in her younger years and later retired from Quad Graphics.

Dixie will be forever missed by her son, Nelson (Tammy) Donaldson of Beecher City and daughter, Colleen (Kevin) Miller of Longview, TX; grandchildren, Lauryn Miller, Preston Miller, Jordan Donaldson, and Whitney Donaldson; great-grandchildren, Kellen and Maddyx; siblings, Patsy (Bob) Mahaffey of Altamont, Tom (Sandy) Laue of Shumway, Tim (Jody) Laue of Shumway, and Jerry (Patty) Laue of Beecher City; and father of Nelson and Colleen, Glen Donaldson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Steve Laue.

Due to the current state of the pandemic, a private graveside service will be held (for immediate family only). Arrangements for a celebration of life to be held at a later date are in the planning stage. Memorials may be made to Effingham County Humane Society, Effingham, Illinois. Dixie had an immense love of all animals especially dogs and horses. These memorials will help with proper pet care, and the quality adoption of homeless pets.
