John Livingston, 85, of rural Toledo, IL passed away on Sunday January 2, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. He was comforted by his loving and caring family.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Swengel O’Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM, Monday January 10, 2022 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Montrose, IL.

John was born January 24, 1936 in Cumberland County, the son of Ervin and Ella Livingston. On January 26, 1957 he married the love of his life, Hilda (Kaufman) Livingston. They were planning for their 65th anniversary celebrations. John spent over 50 years in construction and became a master craftsmen who took great pride in constructing homes, university buildings, and hospitals. John retired as construction superintendent from Grunloh Construction in 2001.

John was a man of strength, wisdom, and was always in service of others. He took his greatest pride in raising his nine children: Jim (Diane) Livingston of Effingham, Larry (Kim) Livingston of Marion, Tom (Peggy) Livingston of Mattoon, Ann (Dave) Dillier of Greenup, Eileen (Jim) Trimble of Windsor, Wayne (Teresa) Livingston of Garner, NC, Sharon (Brian) Lacy of Neoga, Patrick Livingston (John Klekner) of Raleigh, NC, and Ryan (Kattie) Livingston of Lerna. He has 22 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon Livingston and Leonard Livingston; sisters, Grace Cooley, Ruth Smith, Ruby Bretz and Norma Jean Eggers.
