Mary Ann Deters, 83, of Sigel, Illinois passed away at 3:47 AM, September 24, 2021, at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital of Effingham, Illinois.

Mary Ann was born September 17, 1938 the daughter of Elmer E. and Callie M. (Smith) Syfert. She was a graduate of Shelbyville High School and continued her education at Sparks College. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bitzer and Taggert auto dealership until it closed and then worked in Sullivan for an auto dealer. She married Olen Moomaw. Mr. Moomaw passed away in 1987. Mary Ann married Harry Deters July 11, 1992 in Sigel, Illinois.

She was a member of St. Michael The Archangel Church and the Ladies Sodality both in Sigel, Illinois. Mary Ann was active in her church and always helping and giving to others. She was greatly loved by her siblings, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Deters enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking. A family favorite was her angel food cake with caramelized icing. She also enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in Florida.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Harry Deters of Sigel, Illinois; sons, Wayne Deters (Angie) of Neoga,llinois, Keith Deters (Sandy) of Sigel, Illinois, Denise Kramer (Keith) of Farina, Illinois and Cindy Deters of Sigel, Illinois. There are fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Brothers, Richard Syfert (Lisa) of Shelbyville, Illinois and Larry Syfert (Wynona) of Mode, Illinois and sister, Sharon Devore (Don) of Mode, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by, her parents; first husband, Olen Moomaw; brothers, Roy and Dale Syfert.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Michael’s Church in Sigel, Illinois or the Mode United Methodist Church in Mode, Illinois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM in the St. Michael, The Archangel Church in Sigel, Illinois. Visitation will be Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM also at the St. Michael, The Archangel Church in Sigel, Illinois.
