John M. Kinsel, 84, of Greenup, IL. passed away peacefully at 5:00 am on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at Cumberland Rehab and Health Center in Greenup.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The Barkley Funeral Chapel will be assisting the family with the arrangements.

John was born on June 13, 1937, in Jasper County, IL to Albert and Thelma (Bower) Kinsel. He married Nancy Robison on March 2, 1968.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, daughter Danita (James) Timmons; three grandchildren Evan (Chloe) Timmons, Logan Timmons, and Meghan Timmons; brothers Dale (Shirley) Carr and Joe (Pat) Carr; also surviving are several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Albert Kinsel; mother Thelma Carr; stepfather “Taters” Carr; brother Frank Kinsel; brother Raymond Kinsel; and three nephews Frankie Kinsel, Rod Kinsel, and Charles Lamb.

John graduated from Newton High School in 1956 and served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961. He delivered propane for Thermogas, worked at Fedders Corporation, and retired from World Color Press in Effingham after 25 years. He was a member of the Greenup American Legion Post #566 and the Toledo Masonic Lodge #844.  

“Pa” to his grandchildren, John never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, catching a nap in the sun and visiting with family and friends on the porch.
