Kevin “Brent” Pitcher was born April 4, 1960 in Mattoon, Illinois, son of L.D. and Sharon “Marlene” (Sowers) Pitcher.

Brent was raised in a loving farm family and knew from a very young age that he desired his lifetime career to be farming. He graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1978, and attended Lake Land College.

Brent married Roxanne Volk on March 15, 1980, at St. Thomas Church, Newton, Illinois. They have resided at the original Pitcher homestead their entire married life.

Brent loved to see straight rows of new crops and the many beautiful sunsets he shared with Roxanne. He also loved to smell fresh turned soil in the spring, a much-needed soaking rain in the summer, and freshly harvested corn in the fall.

Brent taught his children a love of farming, a gratefulness for those that provide through agriculture, the value of hard work, and the importance of integrity. He enjoyed any time he was able to spend with his grandchildren riding in the combine, taking buggy rides, teaching them about farming and machinery, and teasing them or telling them jokes.  Brent was also was fond of his daily farming companion, Duke, his mutt.

You always knew where you stood with Brent and if you didn’t, you could just ask him and he would tell you. The world may have seen him as a “blustery curmudgeon”, but if you were lucky enough to be loved by Brent, you know he was a teddy bear inside who loved you deeply. Brent was known to help anyone in need with his time and talents. He never knew a stranger as he enjoyed talking to and getting to know anyone from other walks of life.

Brent is survived by his wife of 41 years, Roxanne.

Brent was the proud father of and is survived by Jason (wife Laura (Pruemer)) of Jewett, Illinois; Jill (husband Shannon) Starr of West Lafayette, Indiana; and Jordan (wife Kelsey (Sanders)) of Columbus, Indiana. He was a beloved Papa to and survived by 7 grandchildren: Jarrett, Bristol and Wyatt Pitcher, Gianna, Joshua, and Magdalena Starr, and Cora Pitcher.

Brent is also survived by his parents, L.D. and Marlene Pitcher, siblings Shannon (Ken) Nosbisch, Colleen (Tom) Wagner, Wes (Wanda) Pitcher, Denise (Steve) Pless, and Lenny (Kim) Pitcher. Mother-in-law, Pet Volk, brothers-in-law Lee (Sue) Volk, Bill “Wicker” (Judy) Volk, and Jeff (Laura) Volk, and sisters-in-law Trudi Volk, Vicki (Mike) Stuckey, Marge (Chuck) Horton, Sue (Cliff) Hess, Dee (Bob) Bower and Vita (Brian) Reich also survive along with numerous nephews and nieces.
