K. Neil Rohlfing, age 68, of rural Effingham, Illinois, passed away at 7:40 AM Thursday, September 16, 2021 at his home.

Funeral services celebrating Neil’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, September 20, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, Illinois, with Pastor Mike Burdick officiating. In loving memory of Neil, memorials may be made to the family. Burial will be in the Scott Cemetery north of Winterrowd, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00 - 7:00 PM Sunday, September 19, 2021, at the church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois. Neil was born on August 10, 1953, in Chester, Illinois, the son of Kenneth and Ruth (Welp) Rohlfing. He married Phyllis Newlin on December 16, 1972, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, Illinois. Neil retired as a pressman at World Color Press in Effingham, Illinois, but continued to work and stay busy. He was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, Illinois and Central Illinois Ford Club. Neil enjoyed restoring Ford Mustangs, farming, spending time at the pond and watching purple martins with Phyllis. Neil always greeted everyone with a friendly smile and never went anywhere without seeing someone he knew.

Neil is survived by: Wife of 49 years – Phyllis Rohlfing of Effingham, Illinois; Mother – Ruth Rohlfing of Perryville, Missouri; Children – Jennifer (Brett) Beck of Tower Hill, Illinois; Janeen O’Dell of Plainfield, Illinois; and Benjamin Rohlfing (fiancé Amanda Krietemeyer) of Newton, Illinois; Grandchildren – Emma Beck, Tristin Esker (fiancé Desiré Riley) and Colby O’Dell; Siblings – Dr. Michael (Linda) Rohlfing of Flowery Branch, Georgia; David Rohlfing (June Kezely) of Campbell Hill, Illinois; Brad (Carolyn) Rohlfing of Effingham, Illinois; and Jeanne (Joe) Hess of Perryville, Missouri; Sister-in-law – Debbie Rohlfing of Percy, Illinois.

Neil was preceded in death by his father and a brother Scott Rohlfing.
