Homer T. Ryans (96) of Neoga, formerly of Ft. Myers, FL

Homer T. Ryans, 96, of Neoga, IL, formerly also of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away Monday September 13, 2021 in the HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

Homer was born on October 13, 1924 in Rockwood, Tennessee the son of Henry and Laura Mae (Brookshear) Ryans. He married Ruby Lee Taulbee February 8, 1956 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Ruby passed away November 14, 2011. Homer proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a retired Greyhound Bus Driver and a “handyman” around Neoga and surrounding areas for many years. Mr. Ryans loved fishing and especially spending time with family and friends. He was a member and former Deacon of the Estero Baptist Church of Estero, Florida and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Homer is survived by his daughter Mary Jane “Jannie” Kenworthy (Bill) of Neoga, Illinois; sister, Ruby Gregory of Harriman, Tennessee; grandchildren Amy Kenworthy of Neoga, Illinois and Tom Kenworthy (Celina) of Sullivan, Illinois; great grandchildren, Gracie Kenworthy, Liam Kenworthy, Zach Kenworthy and Mollie Kenworthy; and special friends, Betty Kenworthy of Neoga, Illinois and Larry Hymes of Neoga, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby Ryans; son, Charles Ryans; brothers, Hermas Ryans and Ray Ryans; sisters, Bessie McClean and Stella Laughlin. Memorials are suggested to the family C/O Jannie Kenworthy 1038 Oak Ave. Neoga, Illinois 62447.

As per Homer’s wishes Cremation Rites will be accorded and a Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery in Neoga, Illinois at held in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery in Neoga, Illinois Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Steve Massengill officiating and Military Honors conducted by the Neoga American Legion The Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, IL is assisting the family.
