Marilyn Marie Dougherty, 82, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Olney, Illinois was called home to Jesus on Sunday, March 21, 2021.

Marilyn was born December 6, 1938 in Olney, Illinois to Grover T. and Katherine Aldridge Beavers. She loved to retell stories of traveling with them to Wisconsin every summer. She met the loved of her life Harry Dougherty while attending Newton High School in Newton, Illinois. Marilyn attended Barnes Hospital nursing school in St. Louis while keeping in close contact with Harry. After graduation, Marilyn returned to Newton where she and Harry married on June 28, 1959 and raised three children Polly, Brian, and Sarah. Marilyn worked as a nurse her entire career. She often told people, “I’m not a former nurse. I will always be a nurse because it is part of who I am.” Marilyn was a seamstress, a crafter, and a lifelong learner and was always ready to try the newest trend. She was an entrepreneur in her retirement years; but her favorite role was being a Nana. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved her entire family fiercely and would brag endlessly about them. She loved listening to religious hymns, old country songs and watching an array of good TV, especially westerns, with her sweetheart. She knew more about iPhones, computers and FaceTime than most women of her age group. Marilyn made everyone who entered her home feel like family. She loved to be in the kitchen showing her love through baking and cooking. She was a devout follower of Christ and taught the love of Jesus through her actions.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harry of Lee’s Summit; daughters Polly (John) Roe of Kansas City, Missouri and Sarah (Darrin) Wheat of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; son Brian (Lori) Dougherty of Terre Haute, Indiana; twelve grandchildren, Amanda Heany (Joe), Johnny Roe (Emily), Annie Roe, Hannah Dougherty, Kelsey Dougherty, Will Dougherty, Emma Wheat (Jayson), Olivia Wheat (Thomas), Harrison Wheat, Hannah Jensen (Erik), Aubree Harrison and Erika Harrison (Brandon Brooks); greatgrandchildren, Grace Heany, Joseph Heany, Grace Jensen, Lyla Jensen, Asher Baca and Avery Brooks; brothers-in-law, Bill Dougherty, Tom Dougherty (Dee), Mark Dougherty (Debby), Jim Dougherty (Mary Ann); sisters-in-law Norma Beavers, Darlene Kinder (Jerry), Sue Songer (Roger), Debbie Hartrich (Jim) and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leonard Beavers; sister, Dorothy Shearer; brothers-inlaw, J Alvin Dougherty, Max Dougherty and Walt Shearer and sister-in-law Marlene Dougherty.
