Delbert Wayne "Del" Stortzum (89) of Mattoon, formerly of Shelbyville and Effingham

Delbert Wayne “Del” Stortzum, 89, of Mattoon, IL, formerly of Shelbyville and Effingham, IL, passed away suddenly at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 2021 in the ER at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Del was born on August 17, 1931 in Clay County, IL, the son of Herman Walter and Esther (Budde) Stortzum. He graduated from Effingham High School in the Class of 1950 and attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. He married Barbara Lou Rinehart on May 19, 1952. Del served in the U.S. Army Engineer Aviation Battalion during the Korean War. He was the manager for Jon’s Department Store in Shelbyville for many years. Del and his wife, Barb, own DWS Retail Consulting which is currently operated by their sons. Del loved to work and he loved his job.

He is survived by his wife, Barb; sons, Tim and Mark Stortzum, both of Moffat, CO; daughter, Melissa Masters of Mattoon, IL; and two granddaughters, Aimee Goodwin of Mattoon, IL and Jordan Masters of Denver, CO. Del was one of the nicest people that ever lived. He was loved by all and will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Del Stortzum; and brother, Erwin Stortzum.

Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. At. Del’s request, no services will be held. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
