Virginia Diane “Ginny” Degand, age 57, of Newton, Illinois, and formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away at 1:10 AM Monday, March 1, 2021, at her home.

Private family services will be held in Stickney, Illinois. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. Virginia Diane better known as “Ginny” was born on November 20, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Leonard and Linda (Mertens) Degand. She graduated from Alvernia High School in 1981.

Ginny worked at E.R. Moore Cap and Gown in Newton and had been a truck driver. She enjoyed taking care of her dogs

Ginny enjoyed playing softball and baseball and was the first girl to play baseball at Horner Park in Chicago.

Siblings – Paul (Sandi) Degand of Newton, Illinois; Michael (Monica) Degand of Newton, Illinois; Belinda (Joe) Kubicki of Stickney, Illinois; Andrew (Emily) Scates of Oakwood, Illinois; Joseph (Teresa) Scates of Solon Springs, Wisconsin and David Scates of Rose Hill, Illinois

Several nieces and nephews also survive

Ginny was preceded in death by her father and a brother Christopher Scates.
