Elwin "Curly" Stuemke (67) of Altamont

Elwin D. ‘Curly’ Stuemke, 67, of Altamont, died at 4:20 p.m. Thursday, February 25, 2021 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Dr. James Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3 p.m - 7 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. Fireman’s Bell Service and Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorials may be made to ALIS, Altamont Sport’s Booster, or the Donor’s Choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

COVID-19 protocol including but not limited to face covering and social distancing will be required.

Elwin D. Stuemke was born on Tuesday, June 16, 1953 in Effingham, IL to Delbert and Mildred (Alwardt) Stuemke. He married April Seales on August 24, 1974 and she survives. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Immanuel Praise Team. Curly was a former member of the Altamont Volunteer Fire Department and was currently trustee/treasurer of the Altamont Fire Protection District. He sang the national anthem at Wrigley Field on several occasions. Curly was a longtime owner/operator of the Marathon service station in Altamont. He announced tractor pulls for many years throughout the state.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by; sons, Kyle (Emily) Stuemke, Altamont, Kenon (Stephanie) Stuemke, Avon, IN, Kory Stuemke, Menomonie, WI; brothers, Melvin (Karen) Stuemke, St. Elmo, Eugene (Sandra) Stuemke, Altamont; 3 grandchildren, Brayden, Nathan, and Reed Stuemke; 1 grandaughter, Kennedy, on the way; brothers and sisters-in-law; Bart (Julie) Seales, Lori (Charlie) McCain, Penny (Jerry) White, Dean (Lesa) Seales, and Emilie (Monte) Wall; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Sandy Stuemke and brother-in-law, Clint Merkel.
