Robert Eugene “Rob” Bennett, age 67, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 5:07 PM – Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Private family services will be held.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.  In loving memory of Rob, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Shop with a Cop and may be mailed to the Bennett Family 13706 East State Highway 33, Newton, Illinois 62448.

Robert Eugene, better known as Rob, was born on January 9, 1954, in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Richard R. “Red” and Mary (Rentz) Bennett.  He was united in marriage to Debra Gonda on October 19, 1980, in Griffith, Indiana.

Rob was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois. He was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus #1704 in Newton, Illinois. Rob was an active member of the Jasper County Emergency Management Agency and was employed as a correctional officer with the Jasper County Sheriff’s office for many years.  He also had served as a deputy sheriff in Nye County, Nevada, for a few years. Rob enjoyed classic and muscle cars, but most of all spending time with his family. 
Rob was also known by his and friends as an excellent cook and loved to share his cooking with others.

Rob is survived by his wife of 40 years - Debra Bennett of Newton, Illinois, Children - William (Dana) Bennett of Hobbart, Indiana; Lynnette Griffith of Hastings, Nebraska and Ryan Bennett of Newton, Illinois, Grandchildren - Megan Bennett, Karlynne Miller, Brookelyn Bennett, Lindsey Bennett, Vincent Gray and Hunter Miller, Sister – Rene` Bennett of Florida, Several Nieces & Nephews also survive.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Dominic Miller, brother Richard E. “Eddie” Bennett, Father and Mother-in-Law John M. and Norma Gonda.
