Wallace Lee “Wally” Bechtel, 81, of Herrick, IL passed away at 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at home surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the Herrick Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Huddleston officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery in Herrick. Memorials may be made to the Herrick Baptist Church and mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, %Wally Bechtel, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden is assisting the family.

Wally was born on May 10, 1939, at the family homestead in rural Herrick, the son of Rex and Grace (Carpenter) Bechtel. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Wally and Carol “June” Hart were united in holy matrimony on July 24, 2019. Wally retired from the Norfolk and Western Railroad after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Herrick Baptist Church and the Clover Leaf Masonic Lodge #990 of Herrick. His passion was playing guitar and playing at Country Music Shows. He also enjoyed golfing and hogging for catfish.

Wally is survived by his lovely wife, June Bechtel of Herrick; son, Greg (Jamie) Bechtel of Ramsey; stepchildren: Gary (Deanna) Hall of Cowden, Lana Hall of North Liberty, IA, Melinda (Henry Endris) Wehrle of Robinson, Eddy (Pamela) Watson of Beecher City and Kenny Watson of Cowden; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Grace Bechtel; two grandchildren; two brothers: Fuller (Bobby) Bechtel and Rex Bechtel, Jr. and sister, Shirley Rauch.
