Hugh Fletcher Hays (90) of Watson

Hugh Fletcher Hays, 90, of Watson, Illinois died at 6:02 a.m. Sunday, March 24th, 2013 at Lakeland Rehabilitaton and Health Care Center in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28 at Hall Funeral Chapel in Effingham with Pastor Kent Robinson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until servicetime. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery with military rites. Memorials may be made to the Watson Cemetery or the donor's choice. Condolences may be left online at www.hallfuneralchapel.com.
Hugh was born June 9, 1922 in Neoga, the son of Arthur F. and Nellie K. (Scammahorn) Hays. He married Hazel Givens June 1, 1947 in Farina. Hugh was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the European Theater of Operations in World War II. He was a member of Watson Baptist Church, Altamont VFW Post #7676, Effingham American Legion Post #120, Disabled American Veterans and retired from Crossroads Press in 1984. He enjoyed building and fixing things, going to garage sales and making people laugh with his quick wit and keen sense of humor.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hazel Hays of Watson; daughters, Debby Harris and Sherry Hays, both of Effingham and Sandi Clouse (fiance John Cantwell) of Bloomington, Ind; son, Ron (wife Torrie) Hays of Edmond, Okla. and former son-in-law Wendell Harris of Effingham; grandchildren, Barrett (wife Erin) Strole and Justin Strole, of Bloomington, Ind., Chris Harris, Mindy (husband Jered) Pals, Kevin (wife Megan) Harris, all of Effingham, Dr. Tanner (wife Krystal) Hays of Edmond, Okla., Thad (wife Dr. Molly) Hays of Tulsa, Okla., Zach Clouse, Kelsey Clouse and Shelby Clouse, all of Bloomington, Ind.; great-gradnchildren, Morgan Strohle, Noah Mulheron, Haydn Pope, Finley Pals, Rylan Pals, Jenner Pals, Eli Strole, Truett Pals, Rucker Harris, Easton Strole, Lorelai Hays and Cash Harris; sisters, Oma Higgs of Mason and Clementine (husband Leonard) Budde, of Effingham and several nieces and nephews.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Ellen Hays, Edith Barhns, Annabelle, Spear, Eunice Budde and Loretta Curry and brother, Guy Hays.
