Robert L. Brandenburg (74) of Greenup

Robert L. Brandenburg age 74, of Greenup, Illinois, passed away at 12:47 AM Monday, January 11, 2021, at his home.

Private family services will be held. In loving memory of Bob, memorials may be made to the Cumberland County Veterans Monument, Box 454 Toledo, Illinois 62468; or to Friends Grove Church, Box 533 Toledo, Illinois 62468. Robert better known as Bob was born on October 1, 1946, in Effingham County, Illinois, the son of Elmer “Sport” and Lucille (Ward) Brandenburg. He married Bonnie Warner on October 29, 1971, and she survives.

Bob served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. Bob was a life member and past Commander of Cumberland County Post 4598 Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a life time member of Cumberland Counter Sportsman Club.

Bob worked at Eastern Illinois University for a while and the remainder of his career he worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation where he retired after 20 years of service. He always aspired to create tools that would make a job easier.

Bob was an avid fisherman and loved to go catfishing on the Wabash River. He always enjoyed sharing his catch with a fish fry for his family and friends.

Bob also loved going to Florida, in the winter because after all of the years of plowing snow he never wanted to see another snowflake.

Bob will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years Bonnie Brandenburg; Son - Travis Warner (wife Jessica) Brandenburg; Sisters - Rosie (husband Orval) Walden, Vera Ferguson, Mary Schupp, Pat (husband Gary) Evans, and Doris Goad; Brothers - Joe (wife Ann) Brandenburg, Jim Brandenburg and Ron (wife Marlene) Brandenburg; Uncle - Gean Brandenburg; Aunt - Bertie Brown; Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dan, Rick, Terry and John Brandenburg; brothers-in-Law Bill Goad, Bob Ferguson, John Schupp and Jim Whalin.
