Cecil L. Prosser, 98, of Altamont, died at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Aperion Care, St. Elmo.

Private family services will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Union Cemetery with Rev. Paige Campbell and Dan Laack officiating with military rites by Gieseking-Schwerdtfeger VFW Post #7676, Altamont. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Altamont or Aperion Care Activity Department, St. Elmo. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Cecil was born on Monday, February 20, 1922 in Clarksburg Township, Mode, IL to Clarence and Inez (Collins) Prosser. He married Lois E. Prosser on August 30, 1943 in Mode and she preceded him in death on April 25, 2016 after over 72 years of marriage. Cecil served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. Prior to retirement he had been employed with Randall Ford, Beecher City and was the St. Louis District Sales Award Winner in 1957, Graham Motor Company, Effingham and owned and operated Prosser Used Cars, Effingham. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Altamont and was a past member of the VFW Post #7676, Altamont. He had been a Sunday school superintendent for 20 years at the Beecher City United Methodist Church. He was the recipient of an Honor Flight in 2010 and was accompanied by his son Charles. Cecil collected old cars, was an avid gardener and always had the earliest and biggest tomatoes in town.

He is survived by his sons, Charles (Maria) Prosser of Effingham and John (Cyndi) Prosser of Normal; daughters, Nancy (Earl) Frailey of Beecher City and Jeanne (John) Petzing of Beecher City; 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Dewayne Prosser and Donald (Roma Jean) Prosser and granddaughter, Angela Frailey.
