Van Terry Spicer, age 74, of Louisville, Illinois, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2020, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born April 20, 1946, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Dewitt and Evelyn (Tolliver) Spicer. He was united in marriage to Ruth Hockman on June 19, 1968, at Oak Mound Christian Church and together they shared 52 wedding anniversaries.

Terry worked at World Color Press in Effingham. He was a member of the Louisville Christian Church and enjoyed playing cards, history, race cars, traveling, and spending time with his family as well as his favorite dog, “Scooter.” An accomplished guitarist, he played lead in several southern rock and country bands in the area.

Terry is survived by his wife: Ruth Spicer; a son: Phillip (Ericka) Spicer; a grandson: Dustin Spicer; a brother: Darrell Spicer; a sister-in-law: Fern Krutsinger; and a brother-in-law: Bob Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Monday, October 5, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Oskaloosa Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter (CCARS) and will be accepted through the funeral home.
