Calvin R. Pontious, 78, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at his home in Watson.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, September 28, 2020 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Watson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to time of service, Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed by clicking here

Calvin was born November 23, 1941 in Effingham County, the son of Ray and Ethel (Higgins) Pontious. He married Nancy Tegeler on September 16, 1967. Calvin served in the Unites States Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War and was a lifetime member of the Effingham D.A.V and VFW Post #1769. He was an over 50 year member of the Effingham American Legion Post #120 and was a retired welder helper with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. 

Calvin is survived by his wife, Nancy of Watson; daughters, Tracy Grunloh and Tina Mette, both of Altamont; sons, Joseph (friend, Theresa) of Effingham and Justin (Erin) of Watson; 12 grandchildren, Nathan Pontious, Jacob Pontious, Dylan Pontious, Tyler (Melissa) Mette, Trent Mette, Troy (Cassie) Mette, Tinley Mette, Taylor Mette, Braden Grunloh, Brianna Grunloh, Colby Haynes and Miley Pontious; 4 great-grandchildren, Lylliana, Lucylle, Leyla, and Tucker Mette.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and their spouses Edith (Charles) Robertson, Virginia (Art) Culver, Aline (Fritz) Beitz, Marie (Bob) Wilson and Rita (Bob) McCain.
