Marcella Ramsey, 94, of Shumway died at 1:25am Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday Mar. 18, 2013 in Ramsey Cemetery near Effingham. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Monday in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson, IL. Memorials may be made to the Effingham Humane Society. Marcella was born Oct. 6, 1918 in Effingham County, IL the daughter of Edgar and Mary Bales Ramsey. She graduated from Effingham High School in the Class of 1936. Marcella was a switchboard operator of the first telephone company that provided service to the Shumway area. Later, she worked as a caregiver to people who were in need of her loving assistance. Marcella was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Effingham, IL and later the First Christian Church of Stewardson. She enjoyed listening to the radio, relaxing on her front porch and gardening. She loved all animals (especially dogs).
Surviving are special niece and nephew, Judy (Dave) Carroll of Beecher City, IL and Bill Antrim of Shumway, IL, both of whom always loved her and looked after her needs; special neighbor, Phyllis Bernhard; loving friend, Kelly Connours; her faithful canine companion, Patch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Sam Ramsey; sisters: Hannah Ramsey, Bessie Ramsey, Lorene Ramsey and Julie Ramsey.
