James C. “Jim” McKinnon, 77, of Mason, IL, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, IL.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham with Masonic Rites and Military Rites. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Illinois Sheriff’s Association or Shriners Hospitals for Children – St. Louis. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.

James was born on July 25, 1943 in Effingham, IL, the son of Clyde F. and Pearl E. (Correll) McKinnon. He married Cecelia Hortenstine on December 12, 1992, in Las Vegas, NV.

Jim served his country in the United States Marines serving during the Vietnam Conflict from 1962-1966. Jim later served with the local National Guard. After being discharged from the Marines, Jim worked as a police officer in Phoenix, AZ. When he moved back to the Effingham area, he worked as a Sherriff’s Deputy. He also worked at Fedders for many years holding multiple positions. Most recently, Jim enjoyed his time working at Charlie’s Knife Shop.

Jim was a member of the Edgewood Masonic Lodge #484, Order of the Eastern Star Effingham Chapter #110, and H.O.G. Harley Owners Group. For many years, Jim enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He and his wife, Cecelia, would even travel cross country on the Harley for vacations.

Jim is survived by his wife, Cecelia McKinnon of Mason; three sons; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
