Toby was born on September 30, 1961, in Effingham, IL, the son of Paul and Diana (Smith) Doedtman. He married Debbie Moody and she preceded him in death. Toby grew up in Teutopolis, IL. After high school and following in his father’s footsteps, Toby began his vocational life in construction until he left this field for commercial printing (World Color Press in Mount Vernon, IL and Dyersburg, TN, and R & R Donnelly in Pontiac, IL). Toby quickly learned the trade becoming prolific at maintenance on the binding machines. These skills made him sought after in his trade, which brought a move to Dyersburg, TN. Toby left printing to establish a successful business, D & K Packaging in Dyersburg, TN with his wife, Debbie and son, Josh. Toby never knew a stranger and could talk to anyone, a perfect fit for his business. Toby appreciated the support and dedication of his employees there. Toby circled back to his first love of construction and began Doedtman-Moreton Partnership. Together with his sister, Jessica they built Eastland Apartments in Effingham, IL.

Toby’s greatest joy was his family, spending time with his parents and siblings, children and grandchildren. Toby enjoyed taking his children to the many Doedtman family occasions; never missing a visitation opportunity with his children. Toby often teasingly boasted that “he was the good son” to his many brothers and sisters. Living by a private lake in Tennessee, combined Toby’s life enjoyments of the water and fishing; not to mention his love for fast cars (especially his Prowler) playing cards and traveling. Always a consummate gentleman, Toby put others first with a generous nonjudgmental heart of gold. Toby’s sense of humor was unrivaled; often playing practical jokes on his family and friends.

Toby is survived by his parents, Paul and Diana (Smith) Doedtman of Effingham, IL; sons, Josh Doedtman of Dyersburg, TN and Ryan (wife, Kayla) Doedtman of Toledo, IL; daughter, Michelle (husband, Matthew) Owen of Paris, IL; brother, Gary (wife, Mary) Doedtman of Effingham, IL, sister, Angie (husband, Richard) Neu of Beecher City, IL, brother (deceased), John (wife, Debra) Doedtman of Teutopolis, IL, brother, Victor (wife, Margaret) Doedtman of Raytown, MO, sister, Jessica (husband, Tim) Moreton of Dahlgren, IL, sister, Julie Doedtman of Effingham, IL, and brother, Jake (Faith Griffin) Doedtman of Effingham, IL; and Toby’s partner, Shawna Matice McIntosh.

Toby was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Doedtman; and brothers, Benjamin Doedtman and John Doedtman.
