Mary Jean Fear, age 87, of Effingham, Illinois, and former resident of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 5:23 AM - Friday, June 12, 2020, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM – Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois, with Rev. Steve Willis officiating.  In loving memory of Mary Jean, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Mary Jean was born on October 16, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of George Washington Cruce and Christine (McCaslin) Cruce.  She married Robert Franklin Fear on April 17, 1952, in Marion, Kentucky, and he preceded her in death on April 18, 2017.

Mary Jean managed the Jasper County Senior Citizens Center in Newton for several years. 

Mary Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church and Chapter FN P.E.O. sisterhood.  She was an avid collector of antiques.

Mary Jean is survived by: Children – Stephen F. (Terry) Fear of Charleston, Illinois, Gregory Scott Fear of Port Charles, Florida and Robert Bradley Fear of Charleston, Illinois, 6 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, Sister - Helen Cruce of Sun City Center, Florida, Brother-in-law – Keith A. (Nancy) Fear of Newton, Illinois

Mary Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband and father and mother-in-law Ira Franklin Fear and Arca Doris (Field) Fear.
